It is now official. 2006 will mark the return of mechanical monkey jocks on actual live greyhounds....This was done in the forties and fairly successful at several tracks in the south...They had used live monkeys. As odd as it sounds these are trained monkeys.....The type that will be used at Yonkers will be mechanical ultralite weight monkey-jocks. This is being done to get around some red tape laws.....and will not be deemed greyhound racing as the dogs may be of mixed greyhound blood. NYS law now forbids "greyhound" racing. The harness meet will continue and word has it Yonkers will be the home of a 10,000,000 $ US World Handicapping Contest in 2006.
